Congrats to my brother Pat and sister-in-law Kelly on their new little girl. She was born yesterday at 8:42 p.m. and came in to the world at 8 lbs 2 oz and 20.5" long. My new niece is still awaiting the perfect name, but she and mama are doing well. I can't wait to meet the newest member of the family.
Miss Tiffany over at Peanut Blossom is patiently awaiting the May arrival of her "Little Pea." I've known Tiffany for a few years, but I think I have gotten to know her best through her blog. So when I first heard she was pregnant over the winter, I couldn't wait to make a baby gift for her.
While the good thing about blogs is that you can learn a lot about another person, the bad thing is you can't share your projects if you readers are the gift receivers. I've been working on this blanket for the past couple of weeks, but I had to keep a tight lid on it until it was in Tiffany's hands. And now that it is, here we go...
This is the Ribbons Baby Blanket done in three colors: teal, lime, and magenta. I've knit this pattern once before, but for whatever reason, it turned out much puffier this time. The yarn was a little thicker, so maybe that was it. It just made it a little more roly-poly-oly.

Well, I'd like to say that I was able to knit all three of the baby items that I had wanted, but alas, time was against me. To make matters even worse, on the last night I had to knit, I cut the tip of my finger with an Xacto. I thought I could knit with a bandage on my finger, but my needles kept getting caught on it. After much swearing, I surrendered.
And to make up for the missing diaper covers, I made this little framed goody for the baby's room (a pink and brown polka dotted nursery...cute!) The little sticker in the middle says "Cutie Pie."
Well, I crossed one thing off of the Knitting To-Do list, and I'm hopeful that it's the biggest of the three things I need to get done. The Fiona top/dress for my yet-to-arrive niece is all done, but I have to say, I'm not a big fan of how the pattern was written. It was OK, but there a few mistakes and it should've been written to knit in the round. I adapted it so that I could knit it in the round, but I didn't do it quite right (I should've eliminated a few stitches on the side since I wasn't seaming it). Still, in the end, I think it turned out pretty sweet....and springy!
Back in the fall, I made a skully hat for Miss Shannon's soon to be baby boy. She wanted something tough, which turned out to suit Mr. Levi nicely given how tough he had to be during his few months after being born premature. Now he's two-months old and sporting the new hat. Come on...it doesn't get any cuter than this!
I hope that face isn't what he thinks of the hat....hmm.
Yay! The veggie sweater fits Miss Penelope! I think she's the perfect little model for it. (Look at those toes. I just want to eat them up!)
I'm knee deep in knitting another shawl, so I don't have anything to show right now. However, I may need to put said shawl aside in order to get going on a baby gift for my brother and sis-in-law's baby shower at the end of February. This is their first baby and they are over the moon about the new addition. It's a girl, and I couldn't be happier that they found out since it makes baby knitting a lot easier--and a tad more fun.

In addition to a whole lot of sleeping and movie watching over break, I spent a nice bit of time getting some much needed knitting done. Over the next few days, I'll share the three projects I started and finished.
First up: A baby girl sweater. I have a TON of friends who are having babies, so I'm way behind on getting projects started and finished. My best friend Tasha from high school who lives in CO is having a baby girl anyday now. I couldn't help but go to my trusty Quickie Baby Sweater pattern. It knits up fast and turns out sweet.
I love how vintage this pattern turns out. I always end up wanting one in my size.
This is the back. I used the same yarn as I did on Moose's vest (Lion's Brand Cotton Bamboo).
I'd like to present Miss Penelope--Camela's baby for whom I made the veggie sweater. Isn't she sweet? Once you get over the cuteness, move your eyes down and notice the finely knit blanket she's wrapped in. The work knitters (a group getting seemingly smaller and smaller) made this for Camela and her little girl. And one of the knitters (Miss Shelley) made the recycled sweater elephant just above the little babe. Too cute.

So if a baby = cute. Then a baby in a handknit sweater vest = super cute! If you recall, I made this cabled sweater vest for Moose, now Callum, back in July when Mama Shelley was pregnant. Callum is just big enough to wear it and made his stylish debut in it this past weekend at a baby shower. But really, who am I kidding? This baby could be wearing a paper bag and still be as adorable as ever!
Did I mention that I used flavored yarn. Kidding!
Minjo, a member of Ravelry's Knitters for Obama group, is having a wee one. To celebrate, bunch of us are holding an online baby shower for her. Basically, we're all knitting/making her something and then sending it to her. We'll take pics of what we made and post them on our board, and then one of the members (a close friend of Minjo's) will be there when she opens them. I've never met Minjo in person, but who doesn't love giving baby stuff?
I will admit that I cheated a little. I made this for my Etsy shop before I stopped selling things. With getting ready to move and a busy summer, I didn't have time to make anything new. But I hope she loves them just as much.

...well, for now anyway. This was the 4th of 4 blankets that my knitting friends/coworkers did for other pregnant co-workers. This was Shelley's blanket, which was knit by Judith. Shelley was part of the knitting group AND the pregnant group. Since she knew about her blanket, she got to pick the colors. And in this case, she actually created and dyed her colors. I love how vibrant it is! And the colors go really well with the new baby's (Mr. Callum...aka "Moose") room, which is being shared with his older sister. Nicely done, Judith!

Knowing how to knit really comes in handy when you have umpteen-million friends having babies. However, when those babies are primarily being born in the summer, knowing what to knit is not very easy. It's usually then complicated further when the parents wait to find out the sex. So I thank Miss Shelley immensely for finding out she's having a boy! It made knitting for her July baby SO much easier! Plus, she goes to church, so I knew I could dress that baby up a bit.
A sweet little cabled vest and bow tie. The buttons at the top are functional.
Daddy Reed is a lawyer and wears bow ties all the time. It seemed fitting that his first born son should have a baby version. I didn't have a pattern for this, and really had no clue either. So I basically just sewed a rectangle and then a little strip to go around the middle. I fastened a clip-on earring to the back, because I didn't want to be held responsible for anything being too tight around the baby's neck!
The code name for Baby Boy Cornia is "Moose." I found a little moose button and sewed it to the bottom much like Abercrombie does with their appliques.

Remember all the babies (and baby mamas) that needed gift blankets knit? (No? Go here.) Well, Shelley's turn was up next with Kristi's blanket. We had originally planned to all do the same blanket, but Shelley didn't think she was up for the round and round stripes of that pattern and decided to do a log cabin instead. And since she's very pregnant (her gift blanket will be coming soon), we tend to let her do what she wants. =)
She ran out of yarn to make the blanket as big as she wanted, so she quilted it with the knit top instead. In turned out REALLY sweet. And with the little bit of yarn she had left, she squeaked out a mouse. (Get it, squeaked...mouse...ah, I make me laugh.)
OMG...look at how cute this little duvet is? It's killing me. But the best part is that Etsy gives you a tutorial on how to make it! Seriously!
I finished Julie's baby blanket! For this being my first blanket. I'm very happy with how it turned out. It starts from the center and works it's way out. I must admit that by the time I got to the last two colors and the border, I was ready to be done with it! It's a pretty mindless knit, but in the process of making it, I had some weird allergic reaction to something (still haven't figured out the culprit) that caused me to have hives all over my face. Pretty. They're gone now thanks to practically ODing on Benadryl, but who knows what caused the hives. Stress? The yarn? The change in weather? All of the above? Just like the number of licks it takes to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop: the world may never know.
P.S. Notice that these pictures are taken outside!! Yay for spring! And I didn't have to wear my coat, hat, and mittens! Double yay for spring!
A while ago I mentioned that a bunch of friends/co-workers are having babies. There is a group of us at work who usually knit up blankets for our friend's new babies. Well, with layoffs, the knitting group is down to four people, which happens to be the exact number of co-workers having babies. Instead of passing a blanket around and worrying about gauge and seaming, we decided to each do one blanket on our own, but still present them from the group. Originally I was supposed to do Shelley's blanket (she's having a boy, code name "Moose," in August). However, the baby shower for Julie is happening at the end of this month and I said I'd swap with Judith since I had nothing on my needles at the moment. I started this blanket two days ago, and as you can see, it's coming along quite quickly. (Actually, it's much bigger than it looks, but the circular needles are pulling it in). I have about four more color stripes to do, and than I can start binding off. We don't know if Julie is having a boy or girl, hence the neutral colors.
Another friend is having a wee one, so I knit this little hoodie for him or her. And I used the yarn that came from this RAK gift. The pattern is called the Easy Baby Cardigan, which I found on Ravelry (of course). It was supposed to be a tie front, but I added little wooden buttons instead. Ties just seemed too complicated for a new mom to deal with.
