Remember the free fabric I was given? Well, I've been using it to start a new quilt. All of the colorful pieces are from the free fabric bundle, and then the white/ivory is just muslin. I'm not sure if muslin is good for quilting, but it was worth a try...and inexpensive.
This is just the top. I've yet to start the actual quilting process. It's been folded up and could use a good pressing again.
This is a complicated looking block, but alas, it's all trickery! Head over to the Moda Bake Shop for the coolest instructions ever on how to make it. (Keep in mind that I'm new to quilting, so maybe everyone already knows this. But I didn't!) And the sweet yellow diamond there? That was appliqued on top as a last minute, Cr@p! I screwed something very major up. I think it was a good fix. Again...still learning!

I feel like the luckiest duckiest girl in the whole wide world! Just lookie at the wonderful RAK I received from memoe33 on Ravelry! Fabric! Lots and lots of fabric! On my July wishlist, I had asked for scraps of designer fabrics or fabrics in patterns that look similar to the designers I like. On a knitting site like Ravelry, I didn't think it would go far, but boy-oh-boy was I very wrong! I can't wait to get started on all kinds of projects. Now I just have to figure out what those projects might be.

As I wandered down some random craft blog link path (which I'd love to give you, but got lost along the way), I came upon Saffron Craig. It's filled with all kinds of whimsically cute fabrics and projects. This site stole my heart, and I think it's going to cost me a lot of money to buy it back!
Over at The Purl Bee, they featured different patterns of really pretty oilcloth. I can't get these fabrics out of my mind and have been thinking about what kind of projects I could do with them.
Here's the fabric used as a reusable grocery bag. A good idea, but I have a ton of those. If you don't have enough, you can learn to make the above one here.
I found this sweet slicker by cristalle on Flickr here, but I aside from my niece Hannah, I don't have any little ones to make for. And, my apparel sewing skills aren't quite up to par.
This little lunch sack was made my morganmoore on Flicker, but I have a lunch sack and it seems more wasteful to make a prettier version than to just stick with the more functional one I use now.

I don't know why...maybe it's spring with all its splashes of new colors and fresh smells or maybe it's the quest of looking for a house (aka...a needle in a haystack) or maybe it's because I just passed my one year Blogiversay...but I'm on a bit of a creative high. I'm still knee deep in knitting the shawl for Shane's aunt, but it's coming along beautifully (and with help from Judith, I was able to track down the type of yarn...Prism in Cabernet. Phew!) I have so many craft ideas running through my head at the moment, that I feel like I'm going to burst. Below are just some of the things that are inspiring me for a big bunch of different crafts. Mendy (or MAYknits as she's known on Ravelry), sent me a very sweet email about my blog and decorating and such. She told me that brown and orange are two of her favorite colors as well (after seeing my Amy B. pillows) and suggested I check out Joel Dewberry's Sparrow in Almond fabric. Through blog link fate, I was led to Spoonflower, a site where you can upload your own designs and they digitally print limited quantities of that fabric. So cool! My interests in writing for a living have been waning over the past few months. It was a big reason why I put freelance writing for magazines on the back burner (and because working two jobs was getting to be more than I could handle). While I don't think I'm ready to become a fabric designer (one reason being Jess said it wasn't as easy as I'd like to think...boo!), I'd still like to pretend I was one. So yay, Spoonflower! I'm still trying to figure out how the whole thing works, but here are some pictures of other people's creative fabrics. What fun! See more here.
I have a thing for funny skulls. Mainly I like the girly skulls with the bows on their heads. But, while looking for fabric on Etsy, I came across this. Hee-hee!
I've been waiting to talk about Amy Butler's new line of home decor fabric, August Fields (the name just sounds pleasant, doesn't it?). I saw the fabric available on other sites and even on Etsy, but I kept checking Amy's site and never saw any mention. Wasn't sure what to think, but lo and behold, her site was recently updated with the beauteous fabrics. Mmm. I've been kind of leaning toward the Dew Drops palette to decorate my new rented living room. More to come on that later.
I'm starting to feel like I fall in love with every fabric I see. Then again, a stroll through the batik and country cat aisles at the quilt store, and I realize that's not so true. Still, I'm really liking multiple fabric collections by Valori Wells. It's hard to pick which I like best!
A good craft room is something I long for but just haven't had the room for yet. Heather Bailey, another great fabric designer has a beautiful space in which to work. Think of how wonderfully creative you could be in such a cool craft room. It's as is if your brain/imagination wouldn't even have to work. The room itself would sprinkle a magical fairy dust all over you that would just make everything you create brilliant. Ahh....to dream.
I talked about Sandi Henderson and her Portabellopixie site a few weeks ago. I'm now a pretty regular visitor to her blog...and how can I not be when the pictures she posts are so amazing. One picture she posted after her travels to Oregon has really been on my mind a lot. I was again reminded of this picture when I was on a site of another new (to me, that is) fabric designer, Anna Maria Horner. Anna Maria has a new collection coming out called Garden Party. Two of the patterns when put together was like a fabric interpretation of the Sandi Henderson photo. It inspired me to pull everything together.
