Dexter Pupdate

Crafts have been on the backburner thanks to nice weather and a chance to work on the house and yard. Dexter is loving being outside, sitting in the sunshine, and crunching ice cubes on the deck while Shane and I get work done. But the fresh air also makes him a tad more mischieveous. He likes to run figure-eight laps around our very small yard. A few of the growing perennials have taken a beating because of it, but if it helps him expend some energy, I'm all for it.

Good Dog.
This garden statue was something my grandma bought when I was a little because she thought it looked like me. She always kept inside in her dining room bay window. Dex used to only be as tall as the mushroom top, now he's a big dog.

Bad dog!
This is Dex under our deck stairs. He goes under here when he's being really naughty (and knows it) so that he can take in big moutfuls of rocks and dirt. Note his super dirty mouth and chin.

Vote for Dex's Mama!

Bissell (the vacuum cleaner company) is having an MVP Pet Photo Contest, and Dexter's mama Zarah needs some votes! Head on over and show her some puppy love.

Poor Puppy

I'm playing nurse today to a sick pup. His little tummy has been bothering him all weekend. We thought he was better on Monday, but alas, we woke up in the middle of the night to another disaster (I'll spare you the details). Dex has always had a sensitive stomach, but this has been the worst. Poor little guy.

This weekend we had him all bundled up and sleeping in the sunshine (his favorite).
We've been giving him handfuls of snow so that he can take in fluids. He loves snow! As Shane filled his water bowl up with snow, it made me think of the Snoopy SnoCone machine from when I was a kid. I can't remember if we had one growing up or if I just wanted one so badly that I believed I had one. Either way, I'm sure Dex would appreciate a Snoopy SnoCone right now (well, when he wakes up, that is).

Pupdate

This week has been a tad insane, so I thought I'd end it with the guy (well, one of the guys), that I plan to snuggle up with this weekend and decompress. He's doesn't look like a puppy as much these days, but he'll always be my puppy. Have a good, relaxing weekend, everyone!

Happy New Year!

I'm back...sort of. Physically I'm here, mentally I'm still on vacation. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas/holiday break. I was sick through a lot of mine, but that meant a lot of sleeping, watching movies, resting with the pups, and knitting. Really, I couldn't have asked for more (well...except the being healthy part). I need to ease myself back into the blogging brain, so how about a few Dexter pics for today?

Dex spent much of his break sleeping and playing, but it started out kind of rough. He broke his pinky toe on Christmas Eve falling into a window well while trying to find a dry spot under a house overhang to pee. He didn't see the the window well and took a tumble in, catching his little toe on the way down. I called him "Baby Jessica" for the limpy days following. An X-ray showed a broken toe, but luckily it was broken in a "good" spot...one that didn't require any brace or lampshade collars of shame. And he's fine now. But I'm going to break his little legs if he doesn't stop jumping on the couch....but I digress. =)

There was a whole lot of this over break.

Pops was sleeping upstairs, and Dex was licking the gate downstairs. That dog licks everything.

There was some playing, too. (Note: He's standing on Shane.)

And then more of this. Nice. Ah...to be back there now.

9 Days to Go...Giving Thanks Today

Thanksgiving is about being thankful. So today is decidated to Dexter. He brings Shane and me so much so much laughter and fun...and sometimes stress...but there isn't a day that doesn't go by that we're not super grateful to have him in our lives!

Naptime for Dex and me. Yes, we really were sleeping like this. He started out down by my legs and this is where he eventually wiggled up to and conked out.

Even the moments where we want to kill him, we love him.

Halloween Dreams

Halloween...it's my absolute favorite holiday of all time! Yet sadly, my house is undecorated thanks to walls getting prepped for painting and my Dexter dog has no costume. Sigh. I had so many big celebratory ideas for doing Halloween up right in my new home, but alas, those dreams will have to remain just that...dreams. Life just gets a little hectic and sometimes we all need to stop and just breathe...or drink--your choice. BUT NEXT YEAR, I'm going to make something like this sweet skull garland to drape across my fireplace. It will be lovely...next year.

Get your garland here.

So freaking cute!

These are more in the Day of the Dead sugar skull style, which I equally love.

Here's Dex doing exactly what I'd like to be doing right now:

Two Honey Buns

Someone that I met via Ravelry asked to make a swap for old Anthro catalogs in exchange for some yarn. She lives in Australia and can't get them, and I had actually held onto mine. I was happy to send them to her without anything in return, but she surprised me with some yummy mohair yarn. It looks just like a honey bun to me. I'm knitting a small scarflette for a work auction with it, but I think I'll have plenty left to do something else as well. The yarn is from a local Australian mill called Bendigo Woollen Mills. I feel so lucky to have received such a nice gift.

And then there's the other honey bun...

Happy Birthday, Suzi!

OK, I lied a little. Even with a super cute puppy at home, I was able to get a bit of crafting done. My step-mom's birthday is today, and since I seem to be addicted to knitting lace, I wanted to make her a special shawl for her special day. I never seem to give myself enough time to make gifts, so this was a quick knit for me...about two weeks. I had to adapt the Eliina pattern to make up some time, but also save on yarn. I certainly didn't have as much as I thought I'd need. But now that I'm done and see the adapted size, I'm glad I didn't make it as big as it was supposed to be. It would've been a blanket!

And for those who are only coming for a puppy fix . . . =)

Who Can Craft with Such a Cute Puppy?

Yeah, there's not a whole lot of crafting admist puppy playing and puppy training. And I figure no one is going to really complain to see more pics of Dex!

This is his E.T. look. We took him for a walk without his sweater and it was a little too cold and damp out. He had the shakes when we got back, so it was a good excuse to cuddle and baby him.

Dexter makes this little face a lot. It's like a yawn, but not quite. I think he wants to talk to us.

Look at that butt!!!

The toy in his mouth is Gus the Ghost, who is attached to a rope ring. He loves this and shakes it to death. Then I say, "Who's the mayor of ghost town?"

What a mug!

More Dexter!

I promise that I'll eventually get this blog back to being about crafts instead of my puppy, but for now, you'll have to endure my obsessiveness. For what it's worth, I did take a crafty approach to these pictures. I used a retro filter on them to create a different look. Eh....who am I kidding, this is still all about Mr. Dexter. =)

(Yes, he sleeps a lot!)

Skully Sweater Gift

Lookie at what my work group bought for Mr. Dexter! A skull sweater to keep his puppy butt warm through the Wisconsin winters. Even for a bulldog, he looks so tough!

Bulldog Love: To Bettie

When Shane and I were housebound, one of the biggest things we were looking forward to was getting a bulldog, aka Bettie (yes, I already had her named). Now that we're temporarily renting, Bettie will have to wait a little longer until she can come "home." I miss Bettie (yes, despite never meeting here). So this blog entry is dedicated to her...wherever she may be. (Photos all came from AllPosters.com.)
