After the concert the whole sky started shimmering with Northern Lights, emerald green and violet. I had never seen them before and haven't since. It felt like the night was celebrating my birthday, too.

Best birthday memory--my daughter making me breakfast in bed at age 5 which consisted of a brownie, some chocolate easter eggs, and fruit snacks. It was truly the best breakfast ever.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory is of a red velvet cake my mom made for me when I was 16. She worked really hard to get everything together for it. The amount of red fod coloring you needed for the cake was hard to find at the time.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite b-day was when my boyfriend (at the time) rented a limo to take me out and about for the night. The clock started as soon as a passenger got in, so he couldn't afford to ride up to Seattle to pick me up from work. Instead, he made a video tape of him having a conversation with me so it was ready to play when I got into the limo. We picked up my family and got a pizza and drove around Tacoma for the evening. Lots of fun.

ReplyDeleteI like every birthday because my family and friends race to see who can call me first. My mom has this tradition of calling and saying, "Happy birthday baby. Today is your special day. A day filled with fun and surprises." I taught that to some friends, so now everyone rushes to be the first caller of the day. 2 years ago my massage therapist was the first one, calling me at 5am (which was okay with me - I was already up since I was racing a triathlon that day).
So cute! Hope your birthday is as good as my birthmonth! That's right in my family we all celebrate the whole month! And they are all my favorite. I found you through Ms. LollyChops and might sign her up to be my bestest friend.

Oh, how we love birthdays at our house! We just celebrated our daughter's 4th and have the sweetest video of her singing with us (but it's unedited and over 45 min long...still want to see it??). I have never had a big birthday, and always have so much fun when I go to my husband's family's birthdays. there is always so much good food, so many people, and a pinata ...which I have never had. My husband and his cousins have planned a birthday for my 24th which will include lots of friends, family, food, and TWO pinatas!!! I cant wait... I am so excited!

ReplyDeleteWell my husband is having his birthday on the 13th, and I baked him a surprise cake today. I don't usually bake, and I'm a novice at baking stuff and you know what, I failed. So I went down to the nearest supermarket and grabbed a Haagen Dazs ice cream cake. That's a wonderful memory of a birthday cake turned into a disaster and a mental note to self that baking is for professional.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite birthday was my 16th. I had a "Hippie" Themed party and invited my closest friends to come enjoy the evening with me. My parents surprised me with a DJ which provided so much dancing fun for me and my friends and it was first time my Dad and I danced to our "Father-Daughter" song "I Hope You Dance" by Leann Womack. 5 years later, we danced to that same song at my wedding. :)

(A loooong entry - sorry, but it needs explaning.)
My best birthday present was the year I had gotten out of hospital a few months previously. (It had been a nasty car accident which left me brain injured, and recovering from multiple broken bones.)
I was not able to do much of anything - no physical activities because of all the newly knitted bones, and my mental capabilities were severely curtailed due to short term memory loss. (After I had re-learned how to read, I could read a novel three times - or more - before I remembered that I had already read it.)
But luckily I still remember getting into the car with my sister and her young'uns. She had coached and trained them (aged 4, 3 and 2 at the time) to sing "Happy Birthday" to me.
I still remember those warbly, young voices - unsure of the exact words or the exact tune - but relying on each other with side-ways glances. And how proud of themselves when they finished.

ReplyDeleteMy FAVORITE birthday memory was when I turned 6 years old. My birthday is in February and we had an unusually warm day for my birthday party. The snow was melting quickly making big lakes in our driveway. My mom bundled us all up and we headed outside to play in the mess. We grabbed sleds and "sailed" from one snowy island to another. We played "Gilligan's Island" all day and were completely soaked by sundown. It was fabulous :)
